And Korin is SO unappreciated! Here's some fanart for the guy: 
Also a bit off showing off my toning skills, random as they may be. And Oh wow I have improved at drawing since the other pic... The old pic burns my eyeeees xD.
The only program I used for either of these was the Gimp. tones are either custom made or the dissolve function on the airbrush.

I absolutely LOVE fanart! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I use Manga Studio EX 3.0 for all my toning now. I also have Comicworks, which is just as good for toning, it just doesn't have some features that are useful when outputing to print that MS has. CW is much cheaper though--I got my copy from Anime Castle which seemed to have the lowest price for it.
If you can get your hands on MS though, I'd recommend that. It's a little overwhelming at first, but if you keep at it, you get used to all the settings. I used CW to tone Volume 1 of SoS, but I'm using MS EX to tone Volume 2, which you can see online now. |

Ooooo, nice. I've heard of manga studio. Is it normal, or pro? (Whoah, I don't even have it but i know about the thing that much xD) Anyway, yah the new chapter looks cool ^^.
And Korin is cool.
Yet this is his first fanart...
COME ON PEOPLE! Show Mr Corn the love!
And I like to hear opinions on my drawing style, if you don't mind. I've been working at it for a while now... Mostly random pictures from my novel (not a graphic novel, but a wordy type reding novel xD) Full Moon Forever. You have to admit the difference between the first and second of my fanarts here is BIG! O.o Yah...

I look back on the original SoS webmanga archives and can't believe that I used to actually think it was half decent! It gets worse if I look at stuff I drew in highschool...it's amazing how fast someone can improve.
The biggest difference between your Lela and Korin is proportion. You definitely have a much better sense of correct proportion with the Korin fanart.
I had a horrible experience/teacher for art in highschool (except for in grade 9), which made me HATE learning/practicing art fundamentals. It's still something I have to work at and practice--and getting proportions wrong is something even the average joe will pick up on when looking at artwork.
I'm excited to get deeper into the Vol 2+ plot of SoS 'cause it can explore characters like Korin more. Vol 2 will start to deal with Korin and Lela's 'relationship'...Korin is glad that Lela isn't dead, but she isn't the same Lela as before. |
